WHAT TO DO IF YOU RECEIVED A TERMINATION NOTICE:
(1) Appeal the termination. You have within 7 calendar days from the notice to appeal. Even if you don’t believe your org can comply with new NEA guidelines, advocates are encouraging folks to do so regardless, so appeals are on record. Here is a step-by-step guide for NEA grant terminations and the appeals process (it’s being updated as new information is received).
(2) Add your cancelled grant details to this Google doc tracking cancelled NEA grants. NPN and our national arts advocacy colleagues are compiling this information so we can track the impact by sector, location, etc., and understand the patterns. Feel free to share this doc with other colleagues as well.
(3) Check out these resource guides: The Council of Nonprofits published a “what to do when your federal grant is terminated” checklist — it is pretty basic but still helpful (and applies across federal agencies, not just the NEA). And the Film Festival Alliance has a good guide to NEA grant terminations with a checklist, sample documents, and more that they published on BlueSky.
