Join Junior Company

 

Our Teen Performance Company for ages 12-18!

From technique training to rehearsals to performances the Junior Company Program gives participants a base in more than technique and expands the horizons for pursuing dance both as a career, and a passion. 

We aim to inspire, motivate, challenge and enrich the lives of our dancers through fostering a commitment to training and offering performance opportunities to help students hone their craft. Dancers in the Junior Company are expected to set an example for other students, both in performances and classes and will grow in leadership and self advocacy.

 

Auditions

Auditions will take place August 23, 2026 4:00-5:30pm

Dancers should come prepared for ballet barre and contemporary/modern across the floor and phrase work.

Commitment:

Junior Company Rehearsals are Sundays 4:00-6:00pm, is a August to May commitment, and has an additional fee.

Junior Company Dancers are required to attend Ballet or Jazz, and Contemporary Modern technique classes at Malashock Dance.

Dancers who take technique classes during the school day or at other studios may have some required classes waived at the discretion of the Junior Company Director. 

Meet the Director – Rachel Torres

 

Rachel Torres graduated from the University of California, San Diego with a BA in Literature with Honors and a minor in Dance, performing in works by Liam Clancy, Allyson Green, and Yolande Snaith during her time there. Upon graduation, Rachel began taking classes and working with independent artists in the San Diego community. She has had the pleasure of performing works by several local choreographers including John Malashock, Jean Isaacs, Terry Wilson, Sadie Weinberg, Debi Toth, Lara Segura, Erica Buechner, Erin Tracy, Lavina Rich and Brianna Pilkinton. Rachel has performed as a guest artist with San Diego Dance Theater and LITVAKDance, and was a company dancer with the Malashock Dance Company from 2016-2020.  Recently, Rachel was selected as an Emerging Artist in Dance for the Arts District Liberty Station 2025-2026 Residency.
Rachel teaches contemporary and modern dance to various age groups and strives to create a class space that fosters creativity, love and community, while allowing each dancer to get what they need and grow their artistry in a safe, non-judgmental environment.
