Founded by John Malashock in 1988 following his extensive career in dance and theater, the Company performs in various San Diego venues and events and has toured nationally and internationally.

Malashock Dance advances the art and experience of dance by creating original works that communicate, challenge, entertain, and encourage new forms of personal expression.

Currently in our 22nd Season, Malashock Dance is an active contributor to the vibrancy of San Diego’s cultural life, serving residents of the San Diego region, visitors in search of cultural activities, and the dance community as a whole.

The Company’s impressive track record includes the creation of many new dance works, annual performances and workshops, participation in arts festivals, collaboration with other cultural organizations.

Educate

Cont_Tech-Chor_March_2009_065_smallThe Malashock Dance School opened in early 2007, greatly expanding the Company’s reach and connection to the community through a full spectrum of classes, workshops, and programs that are unified through the School.

The establishment of the School greatly expands the Company’s reach and connection to the community through a comprehensive array of year-round classes, workshops and education outreach activities for children, teens, adults and professional dancers of all abilities that are designed to make the experience of dance creative, meaningful and fun!

Collaborate

Malashock Dance is also known for their work in the new genre of dance film, choreography specifically for the camera. The Emmy Award winning productions, The Soul of Saturday Night and Love & Murder, produced with partner UCSD-TV, have been screened at various local and international film festivals and aired on public television stations across the country.

 

John Malashock and Malashock Dance have been recognized with numerous awards and invitations to collaborate with major arts organizations including the San Diego Opera, San Diego Symphony, KPBS-TV, Museum of Photographic Arts, San Diego Repertory Theatre, La Jolla Music Society, the Mainly Mozart Festival, Old Globe Theatre, and La Jolla Playhouse.

Malashock Dance has also taken a leadership role in the creation of Dance Place San Diego, housed in a spectacular historic building at the NTC Promenade in Point Loma's Liberty Station. It is the Company's home and serves the entire dance community of San Diego.
